Lisa Muscat - E Salon NSW
By Rob Kotevski April 3 2009
Lisa Muscat recalls the very first time she cut a client’s hair.
“I knew she was coming in and I was very nervous and excited. I must have repeated the hair cut in my head over and over and over so many times I lost count. But as soon as I touched her hair with my scissors in hand, I became very calm and confident all of a sudden and everything just happened.”
Stage fright will surely not be a problem for the apprentice if she could get her hands on her favourite celebrity’s hair, Posh Spice. International recognition would be enough of a reward for the up-and-coming hairdressing star.
“Victoria Beckham is a huge hair icon and everyone is always looking to see what she is going to do next. It would be amazing to know so many people are taking notice of my work!”
Learning and growing under the wing of the E Salon is one step in what is sure to become a long and illustrious career for Lisa. In fact, becoming a hairdresser has been a lifelong dream for the young apprentice.
“I’ve wanted to be a hairdresser since I was little,” she tells myhairdressersearch.
“When I was old enough to get a job I started at a salon on Saturdays. Within the first 10 minutes I knew it was a job I could see myself doing forever. Since then I have grown to love it more and more and couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else.”
"I must have repeated the hair cut in my head over and over and over so many times I lost count."
Lisa’s accolades speak for themselves. She is a finalist in the highly coveted Hair Expo Awards 2009, where Lisa is in the running to take out the top gong for Apprentice/Trainee of the Year. It is just one of the many competitions she has where she has performed extremely admirably.
“I have learnt so much from the experience and the feedback. Receiving the judges’ recognition in the Hair Expo Awards is amazing and so surreal,” she says.
The apprentice hopes to become proficient in cutting as well as mastering colour.
“To be able to start and finish a client’s complete transformation is the best feeling. You cannot have one without the other. They are equally important and if one part is weaker then the other you lose the total look and feel.
“However, I love editorial and fashion work so that would also definitely be something I will continue to get my hands on as much as possible.”
Lisa admires those have had long and successful careers in the industry and will no doubt join the ranks to emulate her mentors in the not too distant future. She is inspired by “watching successful people and hearing their stories. I look up to them and believe I can do it too.”
She is definitely one person living the dream.
“I’m watching my dreams slowly being achieved and realising that you always get back what you put in. That definitely keeps me motivated.”
