Biba Doncaster VIC
By Rob Kotevski
June 1 2009
Victoria’s Biba hairdressing salons and academy have hosted some serious hairdressing talent in Australia.
Biba Moonee Ponds
Apprentice Leah Tuminello
is destined for big things after she completes her education at one of the most exciting training grounds in the industry.
Lyndal Salmon
took out the silver prize at last year’s
Wella Trend Vision Awards
.
The Biba salons are set to add to their already impressive collection of awards. Two of Biba’s finest - Frank Apostolopoulos and Marcello Guerresi – are nominated for the highly coveted Hairdresser of the Year prize at this month’s
Hair Expo Awards
.
One of the country’s leading names in hairdressing is set to grow even more with the launch of the new salon in Westfield Doncaster.
Founder and owner of
Biba
Paul Divitaris teamed up with Creative Director and owner of Biba Moonee Ponds Marcello Guerresi to create the exciting and new salon in Donacaster.
The unique combination of materials, layout and lighting maximises the space and creates a fashion-forward look and feel to the salon. The catwalk feel just exudes a confidence in fashion. The back wall has mirror tiles to create a sense of increased space. The walls are utilised through metal beams to host a photo gallery and areas around cutting stations display the latest in hot hair products.
“Biba Doncaster is original, individual and cool,” Guerresi tells myhairdressersearch.
Interior designer Ryan Russell worked with the team to produce a fresh new feel for the salon, but also something that would fit in with the Biba look and still be recognisable as part of the hairdressing institution.
One striking feature of Biba Doncaster is the engineered lighting design. The clever lighting system contains a series of single fluorescent battens that are integrated into the ceiling, the cutting stations and display joinery, providing the illusion that they are floating through space.
“It was important for Biba that the lighting was placed in defined locations in the salon,” Russell says. “This would take into consideration areas for the best colour rendering to produce optimum lighting conditions for cutting and colouring the hair.”
