International kings of style, Dior’s John Galliano and enfant terrible of English fashion Alexander McQueen, provide endless inspiration for creative types across the globe.
Lyndall Vile also is inspired by the avant-garde.
myhairdressersearch’s Apprentice of the Month holds the European designers in high regard and pays tribute to them in her own creations as their work is “stuff that you usually wouldn’t see”.
Currently at Newtown’s Head Over Heels in Sydney’s inner-west, Lyndall says her craft is “mostly fashion” inspired, and believes people around her as well as shapes and colours also influence her work.
The high fashion influence is clearly evident in Lyndall’s work as she has just been announced as the winner of the Sebastian Professional 2008 Black & White Designer of the Year competition.
Lyndall was a little overwhelmed and “nearly crying” when she received the call telling her she had won the coveted award, when she could hear the explosion of excitement coming in from the other side of the line.
“It was unexpected,” she says.
Becoming a stylist was a life-long dream for the Sydney local. Knowing she wanted to work in the hair and beauty industries, Lyndall enrolled in a pre-apprentice course when school was out. This whet her appetite and she decided to pursue hairdressing as a career.
“For me going to uni wasn’t an option,” she tells myhairdressersearch. As a creative person who loved being around other people, Lyndall knew becoming a stylist was the natural next step.
Lyndall sees herself continuing to work as a stylist, mastering all aspects of the trade, including colouring.
“I prefer a bit of everything,” she says.
With her sights set on the European runways, Lyndall believes she’ll follow her love for fashion and work in editorial and high fashion in the future.
