Launched in late 2007, Designer Muzik is a boutique music service provider dedicated to bringing the best tailor-made music solutions to hair salons. Designer Muzik provides salons with a CD or iPod mail order service on a periodic basis.

Salons are able to determine how much they want to spend and how long they decide to use Designer Muzik’s services. Providing sophisticated music for sophisticated minds, the range of music available to salons includes chill out, jazz, funk/hip-hop and lounge.

Where did the idea for Designer Muzik come from?

Designer Muzik was created out of two years of solid market research in which we were able to determine, quite strongly, that the need for high quality, tailored music for businesses was a service greatly lacking in the hair industry. Business owners or managers simply don’t have or can’t afford the time to search for music and create their appropriate playlists for their own, unique business environment. This is where we come in!

Where is the music sourced from?

We currently have 14 active scouts worldwide with whom we pay to source specific music for us well before it’s released. We’re kept up to date on all the hype with up and coming artists as well as new, emerging sounds long before they reach Australian shores. We take immense pride in being ahead of the rest when it comes to new music selection.

What has the response been like from salons?

The response has been overwhelming to be honest! With new and fresh music so hard to source, especially in Australia, the need for something different from your typical top 40 or commercial compilations is often hard to come by. As we do our own thorough research, review and grade all individual sound recordings for positive content, we are a hair salon’s one stop shop for all their musical needs. Importantly, our clients get to choose their financial commitment and not the other way around! So our services are not only exclusive, but very cost effective too!

What are the advantages of using Designer Muzik as opposed to just turning on the radio or an iPod?

That’s a good question! Firstly, we believe that playing the radio in any hair salon is the ultimate branding sin! Here’s why:

It’s not the nicest business environment for the customer to experience your brand’s services when you have regular news flashes that are usually negative and at times depressing!

Furthermore, business owners also run the risk of advertising their competitors. A common, yet subtle way many businesses can lose their clientele.

As for iPods, the most common problem within the hair salon environment that we hear about is that the staff are often allowed to play whatever they like! Therefore the music is not consistent in sound quality or sound level, the music content can be inappropriate, risqué or even offensive and in some cases the music has been illegally downloaded from various peer to peer networks which is a direct infringement of copyright.

What would you say makes Designer Muzik stand out from the other companies providing music?

We at Designer Muzik firmly believe that we provide our clients with the latest and best music available from around the world that, in turn, is meticulously selected and programmed specifically for our many hair industry clients.

Are there plans to provide other non-salon businesses with Designer Muzik in the future?

We currently provide other industries with similar services such as hospitality, travel, beauty and fashion respectively.
