Cornrows wowed the front row at last week’s Sass & Bide collection. Hair director Renya Xydis created a ‘Parisian Fly Girl’ look and suggested getting a girlfriend to help replicate this look “that still looks hot after five days of wear and tear”. Simply part the hair in the middle and cornrow down either side of the head.
GET THE LOOK Hair must start pretty sleek and straight, advises Xydis. Blow out lengths using Wella System Professional Pearl Smooth from new Taylor Made Shine collection to deliver a demi-shine finish and control fly-aways. Then, part hair in the middle and section outwards in equal parts. Clip to secure.
Starting from the middle, grab three smaller portions of your section and instead of traditionally plaiting over – from outside to in over the top of the section – you plait from outside to in, under the section, grabbing hair from the scalp as you work down. "It’s basically an upside-down plait!” said Xydis. Repeat this throughout all sections. Once you get to the ends of the length, secure with an invisible elastic.
When all plaits are complete, plait them all together and wrap into a bun. “If your hair is short, and only reaches the nape, simply secure with a band there for tomboy appeal.” Secure with Wella High Hair Finishing Spray for firm control and no messy fly-aways, “although you can create some texture just around the front by teasing it a little at the temples with your palm,” said Xydis.
