Anthology from Alan White
By Rob Kotevski October 21 2008
When myhairdressersearch gave Alan White a call, he was on location, styling a shoot for Madison magazine. The look of the shoot was inspired by the golden age of rock and some of the influences that will be seen include the Beatles’ Abbey Road.

This shoot for Madison was just one of many for the internationally recognised stylist. His work has previously appeared in Italian Vogue and W magazines and he has tended to the locks of supermodels Claudia Schiffer and Elle Macpherson as well as Aussie starlets Jennifer Hawkins and Delta Goodrem.

Alan began his career styling in London when MTV was all about the hair, think 80s icons Kim Wilde and Depeche Mode. Although he now travels frequently to New York and Paris for work, he is now based in Australia.

After working in the industry for twenty years, Alan has released a range of high quality and affordable hair pieces and accessories.

His career in Australia saw him work with countless wigs and other hair pieces. He discovered the wigs to be quite heavy and made from coarse hair. The high cost and lack of quality wigs led him to bring out his own range.

Alan got in touch with hair piece businesses he had previously worked with in New York. This meant his range was made from some of the highest quality materials in the world which were also cheaper than coarse hair.

The feedback from Alan’s peers has been extremely positive.

“All the major players in the freelancing world are using it,” Alan says.

Indeed, the likes of Toni&Guy, L’Oreal and GHD have jumped on board and are now using Alan’s range.

Renya Xydis and the team from Valonz were some of the first to put his line to the test. The quality of the products spoke for itself and other stylists were quick to follow their lead.

The line originally only included wigs and hair pieces. With the accolades coming in thick and fast, Alan decided to expand his range to brushes and combs and entered discussions with brush and elastic distributors in Paris.

According to Alan, Tokyo also had “really high-end products for freelancers”. A highlight from the range is the Japanese made YS Park curl shine styler brushes. They are specifically designed to reduce drying time which prevents heat damage to the hair. They are made using both natural boar bristles which add curl, body and shine and heat resistant polymide pins that hold and straighten the hair.

As the hair products will be available online, the cost of the good will be kept down thanks to low overheads and no staff costs. The products will be available through Alan White’s Anthology site, which will be launched in the very near future.
