Banish bad hair!

Three simple tricks to turn those locks around

  SPLIT ENDS

If you don’t cut them off split ends will split - from the hair shaft right up to the roots.

“It’s imperative to have a cut every six to eight weeks,” says 2008 AHFA Session Stylist of the Year, Anthony Nader of Raw Anthony Nader, Darlinghurst, Sydney.

“The only cure is to cut them off, but you can prevent more occurring by using a heat-protectant product when styling and embracing moisture treatments at least twice a week.”

 FLYAWAY STRANDS

“Keep hair closer to one length,” says Nader.
“Steer clear of thinning scissors – they will exacerbate the problem. For the same reason, avoid bleaching at all costs. If you’re on the lighter side, only ever take tresses within two to three shades lighter - you don’t want to blow out the cuticle. A solid, semi-permanent colour works best on darker hues. It gives a polished, mirror-like sheen.”

“Go easy on product use,” adds Paula Kelly from Sublime Salons, Brisbane, winner of the 2008 AHFA QLD Hairdresser of the Year award.

“A lightweight shine spray will give soft control and leave hair touchable. Sometimes a serum can flatten hair and make it stick to your head.”

COWLICKS

“Apply a firm hold mousse, then blow-dry in the opposite direction of its movement to flatten it out, which will give you more control,” advises Nader.

“Then blast with cool air to set and sweep it back to its natural direction. This gives body and control. Finish with a medium hold hairspray.”
