Sharon Blain, winner of the 2008 Photographic Collection of the Year Award at Hair Expo, headed the Goldwell hair team at the Myer Collections Show.
Styling hair for the entire show, Sharon worked with the likes of Camilla & Marc, Leona Edminston, Karen Walker and Wayne Cooper.
She shares her backstage tips with myhairdressersearch.
“The inspiration was fresh and free spirited,” Sharon says. “It was designed to contrast with the polished clean looks. Grecian Sun Goddess was the insight behind the collection.”

Blonde, wavy look: “With the glamorous, feminine clothes this season hair with movement and loose curls are all the go. Movement is the new straight,” she tells myhairdressersearch.

“I used a large 1cm hot tong. The tong started a few centimetres away from the scalp and the ends were not curled. It is important to use a good thermal protecting spray, as well as some medium-hold hairspray.”
Slick ponytail: “The sleek ponytail needs the hair to be blow dried flat to the head,” Sharon says.

“Using Goldwell Brilliance, spray through the roots to give a wet feel to the hair. Pony tails work best when the hair is divided into two sections. Separate the front from the back and comb the back up to the top of the crown and secure in a band. Add the front section into the pony tail and band the two together. Finish with a soft wax or a gel to control flyaways. A cord or ribbon can be wrapped around the base to cover the bands.
“This look really suits girls who like to wear their hair off their face and the hair is not too layered.”
Men’s look: “The hair had strong gel applied and it was combed back with a wide tooth before being allowed to dry,” she says.

Hair tips for summer
Sharon says warm hues will be a hit when the weather starts to heat up.
“This season a lot of our clients are flirting with lighter colouring with warm overtones. I think Agyness Deyn hair will be a see every where. This short boyish cut will be hot for the fashion conscious. There is still a variation of the bobs, think Kate Moss.
“And our boys will go from rock star hair to a slick, chic cleaner cut male,” she says.
“With summer knocking on the door sun protection for the hair is a must have. We are all into sun block for our face and our hair need the same consideration. Whether swimming, going to the gym or just spending time outdoors, sun protection is a must.”
