By Rob Kotevski
April 22 2009
The Sydney Opera House is no stranger to being filled with colour, movement and excitement. Apart from the usual opera and ballet performances, Sydney’s most recognisable landmark has featured performances from Bjork, Goldfrapp and Duffy.
On this particular night, however, the main difference was the Opera House was filled with some of the coolest hair and hottest hairdressing talent the landmark had ever seen.
The Australian Hair Fashion Awards 2009 were heralded by a spectacular fireworks display which lit up the city’s night-time skies. With a proud legacy of countless New Years Eves behind it, there’s no city that does fireworks as well as Sydney, and this evening was no exception.
Robert Bava won the highly coveted Australian Hairdresser of the Year Award.
A select group of Australia’s fashion and beauty editors attended the evening, whisked off to the Opera House direct from a champagne reception at the Renya Xydis City salon, where they had their hair and make-up applied professionally to perfection by the salon’s friendly and experienced crew.
The crème de la crème of Australia’s hairdressing industry flew in from all around the nation to help commemorate one of the biggest events on the fashion and beauty calendar. The Biggest Loser’s host AJ Rochester and Big Brother’s Bree Amer were on hand to help host the proceedings.
Stylists, photographers, make-up artists and hair care lines were recognised as the evening progressed.
Constantly on the look-out for the best of hairdressing talent, myhairdressersearch already interviewed some of the evening’s biggest winners just before the awards, correctly predicting these stylists would be up for big accolades. Some of the evening’s winners included
Renya Xydis City
for Best Salon Design,
Marie Uva
who took out the Colourist of the Year Award and
Lauren McCowan
who won Apprentice of the Year.
The climax of the evening was when Robert Bava was announced as Australian Hairdresser of the Year. Bava, from Parlour Hair in Adelaide has taken out the top crown for two consecutive years and he is the first hairdresser to achieve this amazing feat. His collection impressed the London panel of judges enormously.
myhairdressersearch congratulates all winners.
