It’s been hailed as
Sex and the City
for Generation Y. Following the lives, loves and loathes of a cast of beautiful young things,
Gossip Girl
has become the guilty pleasure for countless fans right across the world.
The cast of
Gossip Girl
is among eco-friendly hair care label Aveda’s newest celebrity fans.
The stars of the red-hot drama were introduced to Aveda’s Earth-friendly products and signature aromas by Leighton Meester, who plays Blair Waldorf, the girl everyone loves to hate.
Gossip Girl
lead hair stylist, Elizabeth Reilly, tells
myhairdressersearch
that Meester’s trailer is scented with ever-present Aveda Shampure Candles, and that she’s hooked on “cult favorites” Aveda Shampure Shampoo and Aveda Shampure Conditioner.
Looking good ... The cast of Gossip Girl has become Aveda's newest celebrity fans.

LEIGHTON MEESTER (Blair Waldorf)
To get Blair’s sophisticated, uniform waves, Elizabeth Reilly begins with Meester’s personal favorites: Aveda Shampure Shampoo and Aveda Shampure Conditioner. Working with dried, product-free hair, Reilly uses a 1”-1.5” barrel curling iron to create sleek curls from mid-length to ends.
Next, Reilly finger-combs Aveda Brilliant Emollient Finishing Gloss through the waves to “seal in fly-aways and impart a high shine gloss.” To give Meester’s bangs a smooth, polished finish, Reilly works a dime-sized amount of Aveda Brilliant Humectant Pomade gently through hair. She finishes the look with a light, overall application of Aveda Air Control Hair Spray to maintain the integrity of the waves and lock in shine.
BLAKE LIVELY (Serena van der Woodsen)
Reilly uses a 1.5” barrel curling iron to create Serena’s signature loose, unstructured waves. After curling the hair and allowing it to cool completely (approximately 2 minutes), Reilly sprays Aveda Air Control Hair Spray from crown to ends for pliable, light, yet lasting hold. Due to frequent wardrobe and set changes, the hair team for Gossip Girl is often required to refresh the looks several times through the day, applying hair spray each time.
“I was very pleased that there was no product build-up with the Aveda hair spray – I could apply it several times throughout the day and the hair stays soft and maintains movement,” said Reilly. “Some of the girls can even skip a day between shampoos because there’s no heavy product deposit with Aveda.” The cast tell Reilly that they love the aroma of Aveda products. The botanically-derived aroma is a welcome change from the ‘chemical-smelling’ products and sprays customary to hair and makeup trailers.
Blake Lively has also requested that editorial hairstylist, Rod Ortega, call in Aveda products for both her Golden Globes look as well as a recent Rolling Stone cover shoot with Teri Richardson. She specifically requested that Ortega use Aveda Air Control Hair Spray (she carries a travel-sized can in her purse) and Phomollient Styling Foam.
JESSICA SZOHR (Vanessa Abrams)
Reilly relies on Aveda Brilliant Anti-Humectant Pomade to add intense moisture and shine to Szohr’s thick, textured hair. After curling the hair, Reilly smoothes the pomade through each individual wave for lasting, moisture-rich hold and a weightless finish.
For an extra shine-boost, (a stylist’s trick to give depth and dimension to darker hair), Reilly works a quarter sized amount of Aveda Brilliant Universal Styling Creme through Jessica’s hair to control flyaways that can be detected on camera and detract from shine. Szohr remarked to Reilly that she loves Aveda Brilliant’s botanical aroma.
