Zac Posen Rodarte Michael Kors Bill Blass
TIGHT BUNS At Zac Posen, the look created by Odile Gilbert was ‘Minnie Mouse meets the Robert Palmer Addicted to Love girls’ featuring scraped back buns topped with black pom-pom ears while at Ralph Lauren it was just classically ballerina neat. Bill Blass models wore ballerina buns with a twist – literally rippling like a wave from the forehead to the back. Odile Gilbert wove her magic again at Rodarte where she used skillfully woven pieces to present a futuristic two-tone take on the bun.

Sass & Bide Sass & Bide Isaac Mizrahi Michael Kors
UP TOP, TO THE SIDE For Michael Kors big was beautiful as Orlando Pita created ‘Jackie Kennedy meets Amy Winehouse’ with his 50s teased bouffants while at Derek Lam he was inspired by John Singer Sargent’s portrait of Madame X to create ever so slightly mussed and back-combed French rolls garnished with black bows.
Going further back in time, wistfully romantic rolls coiled up at the back and held in place with thin headbands graced the hair of models at Isaac Mizrahi.
But we think it was Aussie hair supremos Joh Bailey and Renya Xydis who created some of the most standout looks on the NY runways. With a fashion collection taking inspiration from 1958 movie Gigi, Brunsdon’s elegant designs were matched with equally divine up do’s by Bailey while at Sass & Bide, Xydis’s heavenly ‘40s harlequin’ victory rolls adorned with mini pill box hats, giant buttons and feathers were the ultimate in modern glamour. |
