Not even a power blackout or the global financial crisis could dampen the spirit of this year’s Rosemount Australian Fashion Week.

All eyes were on Sydney as Circular Quay’s Overseas Passenger Terminal was transformed into an exclusive space for fashion and beauty, which not only invited a presence of Australian media and buyers, but also included some international journalists and photographers.

Hair at the first Ready to Wear group show was directed by Lorna Evans. The elegant yet edgy look showed a modern take on the classic 1960s French roll, combined with the fresh, I-just-rolled-out-of-bed look.

“It’s all about modern texture, mixing structured shape with a messed up finish,” Evans tells myhairdressersearch. “I wanted to create a modern version of the classic silhouette, something you could still wear walking down the street.”

Illionaire was the launch pad for model Emma Balfour’s comeback, as she worked the runway in outfits true to her unforgettable style. Illionaire easily won best music of Rosemount Australian Fashion Week, with an 80s soundtrack featuring the Eurhythmics and Human League.

The swimwear group show had many yearning for the warmer months to return. Wayne Friend’s hair direction for Redken 5th Avenue was simple. Tresses were kept sexy, natural and soft. St Tropez inspired locks were all over the hair agenda with plenty of gorgeous movement and shine. Hair was either parted to the side or centred, with more lift at the roots for extra bounce.

Deep side parts and long full bodied curls was what hair was all about at Lisa Ho. Hair director Kenneth Stoddart created seductive tresses that were inspired by the ultra glamorous lives of ladies who lunch - the Real Housewives of the OC perhaps?

Thursday’s Ready to Wear group show featured a romantic and playful look incorporating a centre part, with relaxed, tousled curls and waves falling around the face or loosely tied back in a low, textured ponytail.

Magdalena Velevska’s show presented sophisticated hair with a quaint and feminine quality. Todd Arndt’s hair team used classic barrel rolls, reminiscent of 1940s war-time.
