Some of the hottest looks that will be seen in 2009 were showcased at the Wella Trend Vision 2008 Awards.
A group of Australia’s hottest hairdressing talent came together to impress the judges with their eye for creativity and style in the hope of taking out the top honours.
The Wella Trend Vision Awards are fast becoming some of the industry’s most coveted international prizes. Participants are judged on four trends determined by Wella in co-operation with trend forecasting agency Carlin.
The Young Visionary Award was presented to the team from Head Graffiti in Mandurah, Western Australia, Stephanie Bellairs-Fleay and Laura Thomas, whose interpretation of the Wonderland theme was dreamy and romantic. These winners will go on to represent Australia at the International Trend Vision Awards being held later this year.

Following closely behind was Lyndal Salmon from Biba Academy who took the silver award with her Wonderland themed look, depicting innocence and rebellion. The bronze award went to the team from Toni&Guy Brisbane, Felicity Skelton and Savannah Largy, with their Alice in Wonderland inspired portrayal of the Wonderland theme.
Last year’s winners of the award, Rokk Ebony, put on a catwalk show of their interpretations of the four Trend Vision themes.
Unique in that it is the only one of its kind that incorporates both photographic and live presentations, the Wella Trend Vision Awards allow passionate young hairdressers the chance to showcase their abilities and compete against other stylists, potentially on an international level.
The Master Visionary title, for hairstylists over 30 years old, was awarded to the team from Toni&Guy in Bondi Beach, New South Wales, Dana Lambert and Mathew Falzon. They impressed the judges with their feminine androgynous interpretation of the Factory Lyrics theme, with a short style symbolizing strength of character.
Cut and colour are not the only criteria participants are judged upon. The Wella judges grant the awards to hairdressers with talent and creativity who take the specific briefs and make them their own, producing truly original creations that are innovative and holistic.
“The Wella Trend Vision Award is an international phenomenon in the world of hairdressing. This competition provides a vehicle for aspiring stylists and technicians to refine their art by using the inspiration from global trend forecasting agencies around the world,” said Andrew Tetley, Wella Professionals ANZ Technical Manger.
The Young Visionary winner from Western Australia will be whisked off to battle it out on the world stage against over 60 other bright hopefuls, at the International finals in Lisbon, Portugal in October with the hope of being crowned Wella Professionals International Trend Vision Award winner 2008.
