The downside up chignon is the perfect '50s-inspired glam look, says Emiliano Vitale, and one that’s sure to stand out without making you feel overdressed.

“To take it another step further, create a barrel-like fringe by creating the downside up chignon,” he says.

“On the rest of the hair set the ends on smaller rollers and lightly tease once dry – just perfect for that individual winter afternoon look.”

Two colour roads

There are two roads to travel with colour for Winter 2008, says Vitale.

“The dark road is filled with dark chocolates, rich caramels and honey-inspired golds, perfect for dark blondes through to dark brunettes. This is rich, indulgent and really is about a fullness to colour. It is about hair shine, health and full body hair colour.”

The light road is about mixing and matching colour palettes for all blondes. “Think of candy, ice cream sodas, strawberry smoothies, banana splits,” Vitale says. “This is really for blondes who want to create some interest without losing their highlighted look.”

By adding contrast underneath the parting and crown, women can create an original and personal look that won’t take years to grow out, he adds. “Because it lies well below the parting it just appears from nowhere – perfect for winter. You can also hit it with some of the dark road palette for a little more interest.”

Winter hair care

In winter, your hair suffers as much as your skin does, says Dale Dorning, thanks to harsher weather, heating and cold and warm extremes.

Indulging in regular treatments to repair dry and damaged hair is recommended, he says, before suggesting the following PPS Hairwear treatments to repair and replenish hair through winter: PPS Active Treatment, PPS Double Fixx Colour Lock and PPS D Fuse Mask Treatment.

Excessive exposure to heat and moisture will also encourage frizz, Dorning adds. Fight frizz  with PPS Hairwear’s D Frizz range, he says, and finishing products like PPS Hot Iron Top Coat: “It contains an anti-humectant to help reduce frizz and is great for giving your hair a glossier, shinier finish.”
